Lower Summer Street advisory as of May 1 2024

We wanted to provide you a significant construction schedule update. In approximately 1 week, we will be ready to start the road work and paving portion of the project. Please read the below carefully as there will be several road closures associated with this work.

We have to undertake a significant excavation of the entire roadway (approximately 7 inches) to do our final paving. We plan on breaking the road into three sections at the following times (weather dependent) to do this work (see attached plan).

  • Section 1: Broad Street to Park Square West Breezeway (big driveway bridged by the residential building across from the Majestic). We will be working to halfway through the breeze way so there will be one-way access in and out at all times. The single lane under the Breezeway will accommodate all flow of traffic in and out of the alley behind Atlantic St, the Palace loading dock, and the Park Square West northern garage portal. There will be NO vehicular access to the hotel portico nor the dumpster alley behind 61 Broad Street (Compass) nor to the alley and lot behind 211 Summer St (Taj) during these days. Access to all other points will be from Summer Place and Main Street via wrong-way traffic on Lower Summer.
    • May 6-8
  • Section 2: Park Square West Breezeway midpoint (leaving one lane access) to southern Park Square West Garage entrance. All access to the Park Square West garage will be from the northern entrance accessed from the Breezeway (to the south of Catalyst will have NO access). All access to Summer Place and the alley behind 74, 84, and 92 West Park Place will be from the west via Winthrop Place
    • May 9-13 (no work will occur on the weekends, but the road will still be closed)
  • Section 3: 300 Main Street Garage Driveway to Main Street. There will be NO access to the 300 Main Street garage during these days.
    • May 14-17

During each of these three sections the road will remain closed continuously day and night due to the height of the exposed structures (manholes, storm drains, etc).

We will be paving the week of the 20th which will be one day’s worth of work. The road will be closed on paving day as well.

Police Officers will be stationed on site continuously during this time as well.

We understand that this will be a significant impact; however, this will be the final substantial portion of the project. We are mobilizing significant forces to have the project substantially complete before Memorial Day weekend.

As always, we thank you for your understanding and patience. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions. Thank you.
