Orchestra Lumos: Wynton and All That Jazz

October 4, 2025

Orchestra Lumos’ 2025-2026 season celebrates America’s 250th birthday with a season of American classics, new works, a movie classic, and events to mark this momentous year!

America’s 250th birthday celebration begins with a brilliant violin concerto written by superstar Wynton Marsalis, played by sensational American virtuoso Kelly Hall-Tompkins!

The violin concerto that Wynton Marsalis composed for Nicola Benedetti, takes inspiration from her life as a traveling performer and educator who enlightens and delights with the magic of virtuosity. Scored for symphony orchestra, with tremendous respect for the demands of the violin, it is nonetheless written from the perspective of a jazz musician and New Orleans bluesman.

Award- winning American Violinist, Kelly Hall-Tompkins will also thrill us with Fiddler Fantasy, based on Fiddler on the Roof, and composed just for her amazing talent.

The program concludes with Tchaikovsky’s joyful second symphony which draws upon three Ukrainian folk songs. Be sure to join us in this homage to perhaps the greatest Russian composer who was invited to open Carnegie Hall in New York in May 1891.
