Sustainable
As a walkable and transit-oriented, mixed-use and compact district, Stamford’s downtown is already one of the least carbon-intensive and most sustainable neighborhoods in the country. In order to meet the challenge of – and avoid the most significant impacts of – climate change, however, this district needs to be a leader in energy efficiency, low-carbon electricity generation, non-motorized and shared transportation modes, and incorporating natural systems into the urban environment. To that end, Stamford Downtown works with the City of Stamford, the 519 private property owners in our district, and other key local and state stakeholders to do our part to green our neighborhood.
Urban Forestry
Stamford Downtown manages a robust urban forestry program that is designed to maintain and enhance the tree canopy throughout the Downtown. With a 2022 downtown tree inventory as our guide, we have been planting trees and upgrading tree pits for enhanced arboreal vitality.
Low-Carbon Transportation
The commercial building owners Downtown have demonstrated a robust commitment to low-carbon transportation options through their installation of EV charging stations in their private garages, and the provision of shuttles linking their sites to the transportation center and the bus and rail services located there. To continue to enhance walking, biking, and transit, Stamford Downtown participates in a robust collection of projects throughout the District. More information on those can be found here >>>
