UBS Hydrates Stamford Citizens

Smart Tap Launches Three Pilot Filling Stations in Connecticut

Stamford, Conn., August 5, 2013UBS is doing its part to improve the health of Stamford residents and the environment. In partnership with Smart Tap, a company that provides water bottle-filling stations with drinking fountains to cities free of charge, UBS will be sponsoring three water bottle-filling stations downtown as part of a pilot program. The first Smart Tap filling station will be installed in Columbus Park on Wednesday August 7, 2013, around 7 p.m., with two more still to come in Latham Park and outside the Ferguson Library.

The official launch of the Columbus Park Smart Tap pilot will take place just before jazz legend Chick Corea & The Vigil take the summer stage, the star of the Jazz Up July, an annual concert series produced by the Stamford Downtown Special Services District and the City of Stamford.

The sleek, UBS-sponsored fountains, flowing with locally-sourced filtered water, are uniquely designed to easily fill up reusable water bottles – and are also equipped with traditional fountains. This free amenity makes experiencing downtown Stamford and its parks even more enjoyable for residents and visitors.

“We are delighted that Stamford Downtown is part of this extraordinary effort to bring the benefits of hydration to our community,” said Sandy Goldstein, President of Stamford Downtown Special Services District.”

“As a member of the Stamford community, we have a keen interest in the sustainability of the city as well as the wellbeing of its residents” said Lori Feinsilver, UBS’s Head of Community Affairs and Executive Communications, Americas. “We all understand the importance of water and hydration to good health. Equally important is the positive environmental impact that our partnership with Smart Tap will have by encouraging the use of reusable water bottles.”

Bill Apfelbaum, founder of Smart Tap and CEO, said, “The impact of disposable plastic water bottles on the environment is significant, costing upwards of $200 million per year and causing in excess of 1.5 million tons of landfill waste. By encouraging people to drink locally-treated water and using reusable bottles when doing so, we can stem the tide of waste in this country and improve the health of our citizens.”
